Terms of service
Effective 4 October 2026.
These terms cover illogical control, the hosted service at control.illogical.widgets.wtf ("control"), run by Jake Gaylor, an individual ("I"). By signing in to control you agree to them. The illogical software itself is open source, under the MIT or Apache-2.0 license; these terms don't change those licenses, and you can use the software without control, or run your own control.
The beta
- Control is free during the beta. If it ever costs money, that will be announced before it applies, and nothing will be charged without your agreement.
- It's a beta: features may change or be removed, and there may be outages or data loss. Keep anything that matters on your own machines; control holds accounts and connections, not your work.
Your account
- Keep your devices, passkeys and recovery codes safe. Anyone with an approved device or a recovery code can reach your machines; control can't tell them apart from you.
- You're responsible for what happens through your account and on machines you add to it, and for the people you invite to your teams.
- You must be at least 16 to use control.
Acceptable use
Don't use control to:
- break the law, or help anyone else to;
- reach machines or accounts you aren't allowed to, or get around control's limits or security;
- attack, overload or probe control, or other people's systems through it (including from hosted sandboxes);
- relay traffic that has nothing to do with using your own machines, such as running a general-purpose proxy or VPN, mining, or sending spam;
- distribute malware or material that infringes others' rights or exploits anyone.
Hosted sandboxes, where offered, come with the same rules, and may be stopped or deleted at any time.
Ending it
- You can stop using control at any time, and delete your account on control's page. Your machines keep running illogical locally.
- I may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or others at risk, with notice where reasonable. I may also end the hosted service; if so, I'll give at least 30 days' notice on this site where I can.
No warranty
Control is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, availability or that it's free of errors. To the extent the law allows, I'm not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or work, arising from your use of control, and my total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the past twelve months (during the free beta, nothing). Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Privacy
What control keeps and why is in the privacy notice.
Changes
If these terms change, the new version is posted here with a new date, and changes that matter are announced on this site before they apply. Using control after that means you accept them.
